Webflow lets users generate code components with its AI Assistant and pauses App Gen

Webflow released AI code components, generated by its AI Assistant on the component canvas, for all customers. It also paused further development of App Gen.

Webflow announced on April 30, 2026 that anyone can use its AI Assistant to build code components for a site. Developers, designers and marketers can describe what they want, such as a pricing calculator, a search filter, an animation or a location finder, and the AI Assistant generates a reusable component on the component canvas in line with the site's design system. Users can then refine the component in conversation with the assistant or in code before adding it to the site. In the same update, Webflow said it has decided to pause further development of App Gen and pointed readers to a separate blog post for details.

The details

  • AI code components are available to all Webflow customers.
  • Publishing a site that contains an AI code component requires a paid Workspace or a CMS or higher site plan.
  • Generated components follow the site's existing design system, according to Webflow.
  • The feature extends Webflow's existing code components, which previously required developer work.

Context

This update came two weeks before Webflow's May 13 pricing change, which merged the CMS and Business plans and added AI credits to every Workspace, and three weeks before AEO analytics and agents reached Enterprise customers. In our later coverage, Webflow launched a ChatGPT app and MCP 2.0 in July, unveiled Source, Campaigns and Assets at Webflow Conf in September and made Campaigns available as a standalone product in October.

Not disclosed

  • Reasons for pausing App Gen in this update
  • What happens to existing App Gen projects
  • Whether generating components consumes AI credits
  • Limits on component complexity
