People.ai announced on April 15, 2026 that it is changing its name to Backstory. The company says the rebrand reflects a shift from data and analytics toward delivering answers to the questions revenue leaders ask, such as what is happening in a deal and what to do next. Backstory describes its product as a Revenue Answers Platform that ingests signals from emails, calls, meetings, CRM records, intent data and news, applies revenue-specific reasoning and delivers answers inside Salesforce, Slack, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude. CEO Jason Ambrose said the company has spent more than a decade training its AI on billions of sales interactions.
The details
- Answers are delivered through open APIs and MCP integration into AI assistants, CRM interfaces and agent workflows.
- Platform capabilities listed are deal intelligence, pipeline health and deal risk monitoring, forecasting and automated activity capture.
- AVEVA senior product owner Tom Bluck said the company has used People.ai for four years.
- The company says the name reflects the question sales leaders ask about a deal's backstory.
