Backstory, formerly People.ai, announced Situation Search on July 21, 2026. Sellers describe a deal situation in plain language, such as being stuck in procurement, and the feature returns the most comparable deals from their own company's history along with what the team did and how the deal ended. Backstory says it builds a structured description of the situation from emails, calls, meetings and CRM data, then matches it against the organization's deal history, returning up to four deals ranked by similarity. The feature runs through the Backstory MCP server inside a seller's existing chat client and is available now to new and existing customers.
The details
- Each result includes a deal profile, a summary of the similar situation, the actions the team took and the outcome.
- Results are scoped to deals the user already has CRM visibility into.
- Backstory says it uses vector search for retrieval and large language models to describe situations and score similarity.
- D.J. Cox, Senior Vice President of U.S. Sales at TransUnion, is quoted as a user.
- CEO Jason Ambrose is quoted in the release.
