Salesforce announced a definitive agreement to acquire m3ter, a metering and rating platform built for consumption-based billing. The company says the deal will bring high-volume mediation, metering and rating natively into Agentforce Revenue Management, so customers can bill with usage-based and outcome-based pricing models next to the subscription models Salesforce already supports. At announcement the transaction was expected to close in the second quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary conditions. An editor's note added to the announcement states that Salesforce completed the acquisition on July 1, 2026.
The details
- Salesforce says m3ter is designed for near real-time performance at enterprise scale.
- m3ter ingests product usage data, lets customers configure consumption-based billing scenarios and automates monetization data flows across CRM, ERP and quote-to-cash systems.
- The capabilities are slated to become part of Agentforce Revenue Management, led by EVP and GM Meredith Schmidt.
- m3ter founder and CEO Griffin Parry said the company was built on more than a decade of experience building cloud backend services.
- Per the editor's note, the acquisition closed on July 1, 2026.
Context
This deal predates a run of Salesforce acquisitions in our coverage. In the months after it, Salesforce completed its purchase of Fin (formerly Intercom) in September and agreed to acquire Listen Labs, Loops for Tableau and Braze, the last for about $5.66 billion. Salesforce also introduced Core, Advanced and Max editions with bundled Agentforce in September. m3ter is the one deal in that group aimed at billing and revenue management rather than marketing, service or analytics.
