Clay makes open-weight models available for Claygent research

Clay enabled open-weight models in Claygent, its research agent, at lower cost than proprietary models. Open models were previously limited to content generation in Clay.

On July 16, 2026, Clay added two open-weight models, Kimi K2.6 and GLM 5.2, to Claygent, its AI agent for account research, lead qualification, account scoring and outbound copy. The models appear in the model dropdown of any Claygent or Use AI column. Clay says it has offered open-source models for about a year, starting with DeepSeek R1, but limited them to content generation such as summarizing and formatting because agentic research requires reasoning across dozens of tool calls. The company says the latest open-weight models now handle that work well in its testing and cost less than comparable closed models, with savings passed through in credits.

The details

  • The two models added are Kimi K2.6 and GLM 5.2.
  • Clay says it tuned the Claygent harness for each model, adjusting browsing behavior, tool call budgets and context management.
  • The models were validated against Clay's core GTM task suite on quality, cost and latency, and results will feed Clay's model recommendations.
  • Users can test models in the Claygent Builder without spending credits.
  • Fireworks AI is Clay's inference and hosting partner for the models, and its CEO Lin Qiao is quoted.

Context

This came two weeks before Clay's July 28 TAM sourcing updates covering Search, Reporting and Lookalikes. In August Clay added Vibe, Bing and Reddit as Clay Ads destinations and opened betas for Workflows and for Account Agents inside Workflows, and in September it made Sequencer generally available and raised a $115 million Series D at a $7.1 billion valuation.

Not disclosed

  • Exact credit prices for the open-weight models compared with closed models
  • Benchmark scores from Clay's task suite
  • Where the models are hosted and data residency terms
  • Plan restrictions, if any
