Clay makes its MCP available in OpenAI's Codex for prospecting and outreach

Clay's June 2, 2026 changelog says its MCP is available in OpenAI's Codex, letting reps research accounts, pull contacts, draft copy and trigger sends using their team's existing Clay functions and workflows.

Clay published a changelog entry on June 2, 2026 announcing that its MCP works inside OpenAI's Codex, which Clay describes as OpenAI's cloud coding agent. The entry lists setup steps, starting from the MCP section of a Clay workspace, and the tasks reps can perform. It also describes the controls available to operations teams for credit limits and function access, and links to a separate announcement and documentation for setup.

The details

  • Clay is available in OpenAI's Codex through the Clay MCP.
  • Setup starts by connecting Clay to ChatGPT from the workspace MCP section.
  • Reps can research accounts, pull contacts, draft copy and trigger sends in one conversation.
  • Ops teams set per-rep credit limits and toggle functions from MCP users settings.

Context

Clay launched an app inside ChatGPT in December 2025 and a Claude connector in January 2026. Its MCP reached general availability in six AI tools in July 2026, and Clay released an Agent Plugin with its API, CLI, MCP and skills on July 9, 2026. Codex access follows the Functions launch in April 2026.
