Microsoft moves Claude models in Copilot into the EU Data Boundary

Microsoft said Anthropic's Claude models in Copilot will be processed inside the EU Data Boundary by the end of 2026. Existing users need no action, and the setting stays off by default for new EU and EFTA customers.

What we are seeing

Microsoft announced on November 5 that Claude models used across Copilot experiences, including Copilot Cowork, Chat, Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps and Copilot Code, will be processed within the EU Data Boundary. The change targets organizations in the EU and EFTA, including regulated industries and the public sector, which previously had to weigh Claude access against regional processing commitments. Processing moves automatically for current users once available, expected by the end of 2026. For new users the Claude setting is disabled by default, and admins can enable it for all users or selected groups in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Microsoft says customer data is not used to train foundation models.
