What we are seeing
Anthropic announced on October 22 that it is donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation, which operates under the Linux Foundation and was co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file plus supporting scripts or references. Anthropic launched skills in October 2025 and published the format as an open standard that December. The company says platforms including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code have integrated it and that 1 million skills have been published. The transfer covers the name, logo, GitHub organization and agentskills.io domain. Anthropic previously donated the Model Context Protocol to the same foundation.
